A look ahead to the 85th Academy Awards on 24th February

If they can stay awake long enough, and if they have access to the dedicated Sky Movies Oscars/HD channel, anyone in Britain can watch the 85th Academy Awards ceremony live from the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles. The channel will launch its programming on 11 February, showing a series of award-winning films right up to the Big Night on the 24th.

The lead-up to the awards ceremony will also be broadcast live, with Sky News Correspondent Lucy Cotter to bring all the glamour and glitz of Hollywood to UK viewers, including chats with attendees and commentary on the goings on. Sky presenter Alex Zane will be in Sky’s London studio with film critics and some celebrity guests to add their predictions and opinions about the proceedings.

Hosted by Seth MacFarland, creator of Ted and Family Guy, and a very funny guy himself, the billing also has Barbra Streisand singing in her first Oscar performance since 1977, and Adele singing the theme song from the James Bond film Skyfall as part of a 50-year tribute to the British super spy. Live coverage begins 24 February at 11:30pm with Oscars 2013 Red Carpet Live; the Awards presentation begins at 1:30am 25 February.
