While creating a list of best British films Barry Norman, the veteran film critic, stated that he chose Slumdog Millionaire from the start to be number 50, but then he took it off the list and only published 49 movies. The idea was to let the public choose the last spot, but ironically, the results came out the same.
Over 3,000 people turned in their suggestions to Radio Times with over 500 British films listed among the fans. The most popular film however ended up to be Slumdog Millionaire. The film was able to win seven BAFTA’s and seven Oscars and features Dev Patel as the lead role of Jamal. The orphan boy works his way out of the slums and eventually is able to win the Indian formatting of Who Wants to Be A Millionaire.
Of course, there is much more to the film then just this because Patel does not care about the money, he just wants to find a girl that he hopes is watching the show. The film opens with Jamal being interrogated by people that think that he cheated, and as the film progresses the audience learns how he was able to learn the right answers to all the questions.
