The Losers starring Chris Evans, Jeffery Dean Morgan, and Zoe Saldana is the latest of the previously relatively unknown comic books adapted films to come to life as Hollywood has run out of epic superheroes to portray on film.
Of course, it is hard to tell how an unknown comic characters will perform next to the mega blockbuster sure things such as Spiderman, Batman, and Superman, but if the latest trend has proven so far it is anybody’s guess as Surrogates flopped despite Bruce Willis playing the lead while Kick-Ass by Mark Millar is quite clever but box office poison.
In the case of The Loser, hopefully it goes the right way because in its comic book form the clever quirky action packed storyline deserves a nice reception. Started in 2003, the comic book plotline features CIA black-op agents tracking down a drug lord in Bolivia until it is called off without the team’s knowledge almost leading to their deaths. Of course, they make it out, but now want their revenge.
However, if the trailer is any indication, the film seems a bit too routine, with the appropriate amount of double crosses and turns but nothing that will shock you or strike you as innovative. In other words, it’s an interesting film but the formula may be a little too ordinary for the series to ever take off into a franchise although its visual effects are catchy enough to note with lurid colour use.
