Hilary Swank’s Conviction, trailer

Conviction, the new movie directed by Tony Goldwyn and starring Hilary Swank has familiar plot formulas for the actress. She once again finds herself playing the part of a firm set female forced into becoming more than what she started, due to hardship and ill fate.

In this film, based upon a true story, she finds herself up against impossible odds as she begins an 18-year long odyssey to become a lawyer and defend her wrongly convicted brother (Sam Rockwell) against murder charges.

The themes are compelling but so contrived that the Hollywood feature film takes on the tone of a made for TV movie and falls short of anything really promising. Will she succeed at saving her wrongly accused sibling?  A more pertinent question might be, do we really care?
