Intouchables looks set for Oscar glory

In the foreign-language category for the Academy Awards it seems as if the feel good French film, The Intouchables, is going to be leading the race. The film is directed by Oliver Nakache and Eric Toledano and it tells the story of a wealthy disabled man who becomes friends with the most unlikely person. It became the second biggest French film ever released, and it has even enjoyed success outside of France.

Recently, the remake rights to translate the film into English have been acquired by the Weinstein Company and it is due to be released in May next year. It is estimated that the film is going to have a budget of around $12 million.

The film was nominated for a huge number of awards in France, at the equivalent of the Oscars, but only managed to scoop one award in the end. It was also given a nod at the Cannes Film Festival, and has been very well received by critics generally. The film was originally released in November last year.
