Marbella Film Festival 2013

If you happen to be in Marbella during the first week of October, there’s a real treat to add to all the other attractions in the area. The Marbella International Film Festival will hold its 7th annual extravaganza from the 3rd to the 7th of October, and it promises to be the best yet.

The Festival was begun in 2006 by the non-profit organisation New World Trust as a financial helping hand for artists and a venue for meeting new sources of sponsorship and distribution. This year about 100 out of 800 submissions by budding film makers will be presented and judged at the H10 Andalucia Plaza Hotel in Puerto Banus.

To begin the festivities on Wednesday, H10 will host a Flamenco party with Spanish music and dancing starting at 9:30pm. Then on Thursday the screening of films, shorts and documentaries from independent artists all over the world will begin, with prizes to be awarded at the gala closing event. Another party is scheduled for that evening, starting at 10:30pm at the Finca Besaya with music, films and a fashion show.

On Friday starting at 8:30pm there will be a Flower Power Party at the Marbella Casino, with a 60’s theme; wear flowers in your hair. On Saturday, back at the Terrace of the H10, yet another evening of partying and dancing to favourite movie themes. Dress as your own favourite star if you like, or just go casual.

A formal awards dinner and ceremony begins at 7:30pm on Sunday in the H10 Ballroom, to close out the Festival and give everyone a chance to dress up to the max. Cocktails, a five-course dinner and a musical tribute to Frank Sinatra lead up to the final presentation of awards.
