Heading to the big screen is one of the all time iconic video games. Space Invaders will be making its way to the silver screen thanks to producers Gilg Pritzker from Old Lot Entertainment and Lorenzo di Bonaventura.
This is not the only video game that interests Hollywood as they are also developing World of Warcraft and Halo. Nevertheless with the very basic graphics and limited playing of Space Invaders it is fair to say there will be a bit of poetic license used in this adaptation.
Producer Lorenzo di Bonaventura is behind the project and has a good pedigree. He brought to Warner Brothers the Wachowski Brothers who made The Matrix trilogy. He also co-produced the Transformers, the G. I. Joes films and is currently developing Asteroids another classic game of the arcades.
In 1978 Space Invaders was launched making its hit in 1980 to the global psyche. For a number of people it was the game of that period with game play and graphics that all around the world have become iconic. Space Invaders grossed over US$2 billion through the coins that people dropped in the machines to play it, and it is rated by the Guinness World Records as the number one arcade game ever.
