Tomb Raider is back, maybe with Olivia Wilde

Lara is back! Well at least we hope so. Rumors are that the next Tomb Raider movie is due to hit our screens sometime in 2013. The movie rights were recently sold to GK Films and the film is to be produced by the famous Brit Graham King.

The goal of the movie, according to GK Films, will create new daring adventures for the young and dynamic Lara Croft. As Angelina Jolie has aged a bit since her last appearance suggestions are therefore that she will not be returning for the third sequel but will rather be replaced by a younger actress.

This, despite Angelina Jolie having appeared in two of King’s past movies, namely The Tourist and an as yet untitled movie about the Serbian War, in which Angelina Jolie also directs. Rumors are that Olivia Wilde, star of the Tron: Legacy movie will act as the new Lara Croft in this sequel.

The movie is touted to be a darker outing than the two previous Lara Croft movies and judging by King’s recent movies it is sure to have some legs to stand on. King is well known for his work in darker, gritty movies such as Blood Diamond and The Departed, starring Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio as undercover cops trying to discover each other’s identity.

King has also worked on the lighter movie Rango but most of his movies but most of his other movies are darker in nature or more serious than Rango. This links up well with Crystal Dynamics’ upcoming Tomb Raider game reboot which has a dark tone to it. This Tomb Raider movie is definitely going to be one of the anticipated movies of 2013.
