Universal have best ever summer with over $1bn at the box office

Universal Pictures has just recorded the best box office for a summer season ever, bringing in over $1 billion. They beat the overall amount by just $1 million, an achievement that was originally recorded in 2008.

The studio saw a great deal of success with films such as Ted, which really brought ticket sales up. Unfortunately, there were some films that were less successful, such as Battleship, but even with this rather disappointing release, the film studio still saw an incredible season.

The studio will also have a great deal of other films coming out this year which are sure to be popular, including This Is 40 and Les Miserables. The Chief Executive of the company, Steve Burke, recently commented, “This year the film team have done an incredible job, and are doing well for the studio today, as well as preparing it for tomorrow.

Some great new franchises have been built this year, as well as older ones reinvigorated. We have also recently acquired some very interesting intellectual property, which we’re looking forward to utilising in the near future. We are very excited about several plans we are currently working on coming to fruition in the near future.”
